Tips to Keep Your Car Cool in the Summer

Here are something that you should do if you aren’t already in Winchester and Danville:

  • Park in the Shade: If possible, look for a parking spot in the shade. This way, it will keep your car as cool as possible.
  • Purchase a Sunshade or Window Visors: You can also use a sunshade or window visor to help prevent some of the sunlight from coming into the cabin.
  • Park in a Covered Area: When parking at home or at a friend’s house, park in a garage if possible. This will effectively protect your vehicle from sunlight.
  • Cover the Steering Wheel & Dashboard: The steering wheel and dashboard can be hot to the touch, but when you just want to get inside, enjoy the A/C, and hit the road, you might not remember and touch those areas by accident. You can purchase a cloth steering wheel cover, so you don’t burn your hands. Dash covers are also a good way to protect your car’s surfaces from sun damage!
  • Crack Open the Windows: If it’s windy out, you can crack your windows to allow air to move through your car’s cabin. Be sure to don’t roll the windows down too much if you’re leaving your car unattended for any amount of time.
  • Protect the Leather Surfaces: Leather can get especially hot to the touch, and too much sun exposure can fade the material. Cloth seat covers will protect your leather during the summer, so if your car has leather seating surfaces, be sure to invest in some cloth seat covers.
  • Get Tinted Windows: Tinted windows are also a great way to reduce the temperature of your car’s cabin. In Kentucky, the level of tint legally allowed is 35%!
  • Let Your Car Cool Before Driving: Before you hop in and go, open the car doors and let your car cool off a bit. This will let the warm air move out of the cabin, and allow the cooler air to move in.
